Hope Takes Wing is the latest addition to the Operation Migration flock of video's. 

This 56-min. production chronicles the history of the Whooping crane, while highlighting the OM-developed reintroduction method currently being used to safeguard the species from extinction.

Hope Takes Wing - A Journey To Save a Species details the 2003 southward ultralight-guided journey, and finishes with the cranes' somewhat different return trip north in the spring of 2004.

Operation Migration is delighted to announce the launch of a new, entertaining and educational book for school children. Artfully designed to stretch imaginations about the science and story behind saving Whooping cranes from extinction, the Activity Book was produced with the hope of getting young people interested not just in Whooping cranes, but also in wildlife conservation.

On the flock’s wintering grounds at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas, photographer Klaus Nigge has captured the daily activity of a single family over several weeks in two separate years, documenting their life in the salt marshes of the central Texas coast and, in one year, the happy arrival from the north of twin adolescents, itself an unusual event.

Then, with the backing of National Geographic magazine, he received unprecedented permission from the Canadian government to photograph the cranes’ summer nesting sites in remote areas of Wood Buffalo National Park. To obtain these unique photographs, he sat in a cleverly constructed blind for six days and nights, watching as a chick hatched and the adults cared for their young. There he witnessed both the peace and the perils of the cranes’ summer haven.

Features 156 color photos taken at Wood Buffalo National Park, where the only naturally occurring migratory population summers, and at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge where they spend the winter.

The Laguna Clay Company produced this Whooping crane tile as part of their 2009 Endangered Species Awareness Series.

Designed by artist Julie Brooks this clay tile is a half inch thick and measures 8.25 inches high by 5.5 inches wide and has a hanger mount embedded on the reverse side so that you can display it on a wall.

Artist Julie Brooks earned her M.F.A. in ceramics at Kansas State University. She was delighted to be invited to do the 18th Laguna Clay Company Endangered Species Awareness Series tile.
