Migration 2004

Fall Ultralight-Guided Whooping Crane Migration
Wisconsin to Florida

Date: November 14, 2004 |  Day 36

Oldham County, KENTUCKY

Robert Doyle, Vicki Trabold and Walt Sturgeon head out to get in place so they can release the cranes on Brooke's cue.
The birds get a head start on Brooke so he has to catch up to them...
Brooke has eleven cranes falling into place with his lead trike, while Joe comes into view on the right side, ready to assist if needed.
The young cranes follow their small yellow aircraft leader, while a much faster aircraft jets by overhead.
Mark and Tatiana prepare to cross the Ohio River in the tracking van, on loan from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Once on the ground it was discovered to only thirteen cranes had made the trip with the pilots. They quickly check leg bands and determine that the dropout bird is #402.
