2004 Southward Ultralight-guided Migration

Day Twenty-five - Kankakee County, IL

Yearling male crane #302 at a beautiful private wetland area in eastern Illinois. He apparently arrived on Oct. 29th and like us, is waiting for better weather before advancing southward.
While it appears that #302 is keeping company with Canada geese, they are actually decoys. I wonder how long it took him to realize this.... or if he has yet?

Two Operation Migration pilots head on our southeasterly course this morning only to be rudely greeted by yet another headwind.
A frustrated pilot taxis back to the hangar.

Five RV's' three ultralights; a Cessna 182, a 32-ft equipment trailer, and five trucks make up the migration entourage.
We're often invited into our migration hosts homes for meals, showers, or to use laundry facilities. With 12 people on the team it's often difficult to keep a path clear to and from the entry ways of these gracious and generous hosts.
