Migration 2004

Fall Ultralight-Guided Whooping Crane Migration
Wisconsin to Florida

Date: October 26 - 29, 2004

Standing Down - LaSalle County, IL

With the brightening eastern sky as a backdrop, the pilots attach the large wing to Brooke's trike.
A doubtful Brooke takes off and veers on our southeasterly course to test wind conditions on Oct. 26th. At 600 ft. he was progressing at only 16 mph--with a 57-mile leg ahead they would have run out of fuel...
On Oct. 27th a harvest moon rose slowly over the eastern horizon...
At 8:30 we began watching the lunar eclipse...

New teammate Walt Sturgeon, joins Heather and Vicky to catch up on emails....
On Thursday we sought out a rare visitor to this area; a Vermillion flycatcher. Apparently this confused little fella has been in IL for the past month, likely blown north from his normal range in Texas or Arizona.
On Friday we accepted an invitation from OM supporter Karen Fernweger to visit her workplace; Chicago's Shedd Aquarium.
