Wisconsin to Florida

Date: October 24, 2004

Day Twelve - LaSalle County, IL

Brooke Pennypacker takes off with the young cranes from our Winnebago County site at 7:14 a.m.
The take-off looked great but unfortunately the birds fell apart soon after leaving the field.
Still with nine on the wing...
With the original nine still formed up behind Brooke, he tries to go after the runaway crane, while Joe heads in the other direction to pick up some others that had turned back to the pen.
Eventually, Joe and Brooke head on course with only eight young cranes. Richard van Heuvelen landed at the LaSalle County site about 50 minutes before Joe and Brooke.
