Meet the Class of 2008

September 1 - 7, 2008

Costumed handlers assist Dr. Barry Hartup as he carries out a thorough physical examination to ensure the growing cranes are healthy.
Each crane is fitted with a hood that covers their eyes and reduces the stress. Wings are examined to see if important primary feathers are growing properly.

At the conclusion of the examination each crane is fitted with a temporary radio telemetry transmitter, which will allow us to track their whereabouts during the southward migration should they become separated from the flock.
As they enter the wet pen at the West site, chicks #805 and 810 show off their new transmitters
#812 takes a load off...
#810 goes for a short flight
#812 loves the marsh!
