November 17, 2008 - Day 32

Chris Gullikson pulls his trike out of the warm hangar before heading upstairs to check out the wind conditions this morning.
Most of the team waited anxiously for word from Chris - pictured from left: Jack Wrighter, Tom Miller, John Martineau, Richard van Heuvelen, Don & Paula Lounsbury, Walt Sturgeon, Bev Paulan, Brian Clauss, Heather Ray and Joe Duff.
Chris reported it was a bit choppy on the way up to 1100 ft. but once up there it seemed to smooth out so the decision was made to give it a try but if the birds showed any reluctance then they would head back. Today's lead pilot, Chris gets airborne with the birds but soon after they broke up into several groups.
After about a 5 minute crane rodeo the attempt was called off - One group of 5 birds passed by the hangar that we had ducked into on their way back to the pensite.
As I'm finishing up this photo page, I glanced out the window of our RV to see this. Richard was just emerging from the aircraft trailer so I snapped his photo. Geesh, I hope we can get a bit further south tomorrow!
