November 14, 2008 - Day 29

Whenever we're grounded for more than three days at any one location we normally let the cranes out for some exercise and to fly off some steam. Yesterday was our third day here in Winnebago County but it was far too windy to let them out so today when we decided it was too rainy near our destination the crane-kids were released.
They seemed eager to fly and took off immediately.

Ed Mueller, aka the broom maker generously offered to deliver 20 Cinderella pumpkins, which were here waiting for us when we arrived last Monday. Here is what one pumpkin looks like after 14 young Whooping cranes have had time to attack it.
