November 10, 2008 - Day 25

Joe Duff leads 14 cranes from Green County, WI toward Winnebago County, IL as Richard van Heuvelen flies in the chase position. Photo captured by Paula Ritschard of Monticello Public School as the planes and cranes flew over her farm.
A closer view of Joe and 11 of his 14 birds as they flew over the public viewing location. Photo courtesy of Mr. Cappelle - Monticello Public School.
Chris Gullikson captured this photo (as well as some video) showing #827 tucking his long legs up to his belly to try to keep them warm during the cold flight.
Here you can see that only the antenna attached to his radio transmitter, and one foot is left exposed. He's managed to get everything else tucked under the feathers on his chest and belly.
