On the flight from Sauk County to Green County, Wisconsin this morning
Joe had two birds surfing off his wingtip.
Here 814 and 828 have found the sweet spot, which allows them to surf
the vortices of air that spill off the trailing edge and barely flap
at all.

Number 828 was very eager to fly this morning - as the aircraft
took-off one at a time to get into position, he squealed very
loudly, wanting to be let out of the travel enclosure. Sure enough
when Bev and I opened the two large panels to release them - This
young male crane from the Calgary Zoo in Alberta was the first one
out!
