October 28, 2008 - Day 12

Brooke Pennypacker lifted off from our South Juneau County, WI location at 7:49 am. All 14 chicks were eager to fly today and they quickly formed up on Brooke's wing.
The illuminated foliage made a beautiful backdrop for this morning's departure.

Some of the birds fell back a bit soon after take-off. In this photo he still has 2 cranes.
Here you can see his original 2 and a bit further back the 12 others are trying to catch up.
Just as he climbed into the morning sun, all fourteen cranes had caught up to him.
