As we flew over northern Illinois with the Class of 2009 on their first migration, Operation Migration realized an avian and aviation milestone. While leading our ninth generation of young Whooping cranes south, we chalked up our 10,000th mile in the air with young Whooping cranes following our aircraft to learn a migration route. The landmark 10,000th mile - the equivalent of flying almost halfway around the world! - was celebrated with a WHOOP! It Up event in LaSalle County, IL on November 15th, 2009 and was broadcast live over the internet via OM's Duke Energy sponsored CraneCam. Please scroll down or click to view some of the congratulatory video messages that the team received from some special friends! To commemorate the achievement, we invite you to Give a WHOOP! and show the world you care about wildlife, and especially Whooping cranes. Our hope is to collect 10,000 Whoops – one for each of the 10,000 migration miles flown with endangered Whooping cranes following our ultralights. For just $10 you can Give a WHOOP! Show that YOU care about the future of this magnificent species and join our world-wide WHOOP! Give a WHOOP! will continue until the 10,000th WHOOP! has been made, or March 31st, 2010 - whichever comes first.
When you Give a WHOOP! you will:
Give a WHOOP! TODAY and join the celebration of an
avian and aviation milestone!
Tell others YOU gave a WHOOP! and ask them to WHOOP! too.
